Heiliger Optik & Akustik is an Aachen family business that has been helping people see and hear well for almost 100 years. Optics and hearing care are offered under one roof, now in the third generation.

The story begins in 1928, when Heinz Böck founded his optician’s shop on Adalbertstraße in Aachen. In 1937 his nephew Willy Heiliger became managing director after passing his master craftsman’s exam, and two years later a partner. With him, the Heiliger name came into the company, making him the first generation of the Heiliger family in the business.

After the shop was destroyed in the war, the family rebuilt it from 1945, first in their own home, then in a shop on a bombed-out site on Stiftstraße. Hearing aids were added to the range in 1948, and contact lens fitting followed in the 1950s.

A family business in its third generation

In 1973 Willy Heiliger’s eldest son, Rolf Heiliger, joined the company after passing his master craftsman’s exam, as the second generation. His son Thomas Heiliger took over the business in 2006 as the third generation. He is a master optician and a master hearing aid acoustician, so he brings both specialisms together in one person.

Since 2011 the main shop has been on Wirichsbongardstraße, just a few steps from the Elisenbrunnen. On the optics side, the range covers glasses and sunglasses, sports and children’s glasses, contact lenses and low vision aids. Lenses are made individually after precise measurement and fitted in the company’s own workshop.

The second focus is hearing care. Hearing aids can be tried out free of charge and without obligation, and the hearing aid department is certified to DIN EN ISO 13485. There is also custom-made hearing protection, for example for musicians or for swimming, plus accessories such as wireless TV headsets and visual alert systems.
