The Route Charlemagne stretches for about six kilometers through Aachen’s old town and includes a total of 31 stations. Visitors can explore the route either independently or with the help of the official app as an audio guide. The Route Charlemagne, named after the famous Charlemagne who established his favorite seat of power in Aachen around 800, connects several important monuments in the old city of Aachen. <\/span>This city was an important center of his empire and eventually his burial place. In French and English, he is referred to as Charlemagne. The route was conceived in 2007 as the main project of the city of Aachen within the framework of the cross-border funding program Euregionale 2008 of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and includes most of the stations within the former inner ring of the Aachen city wall as well as some just outside of it. Since 2008, the internationally oriented cultural festival “Across the Borders” has been part of the Route Charlemagne and thus crosses cultural borders across disciplines and borders.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
